Community Supported Agriculture
How does freshly picked and locally grown, produce delivered weekly sound? Snowy River Farms is excited to be able to continue providing CSA (Community Supported Agriculture) to shareholders from Truro to Halifax for the 2023 growing season!
A CSA is a way of bringing farmers and communities together by having consumers purchase vegetable shares which will be replenished weekly with the most fresh, seasonal, and naturally produced vegetables and herbs available. The fee for each shareholder is broken down into three payments, with our non-refundable $50.00 deposit being due on sign-up, half of your invoice due by April 1 and the remainder of your payments due on June 1, 2023. After payments have been made you just need to stop by your nearest pickup location and a new arrangement of veggies will be waiting for you, bursting with healthy goodness, for a period of 18 weeks. The produce is as fresh as you can get as it is picked at peak maturity within 24 hours of delivery. In conventional agriculture is it near impossible to offer such an advantage.
The early payment method helps small farmers to cover some of the costs of growing the food and in turn you support local agriculture and economies, decrease transportation time which is wonderful for the environment, and you get to eat healthier too! It also lets the farmer know how much food to grow ahead of time which cuts down on waste.
While we will be doing the vast majority of the growing, we will still work with the awesome people who have helped us over the past couple of years for fruits that we do not produce on site as they have truly become part of our Snowy River family! We promise to hold all farmers that we are working with to the same standards that we do. All of the meat found in the meat share is from our farm although we will be including eggs from Butterfly Acres in Cooks Brook, which carry the same attitude that we do towards animal welfare.
Full share bags will include an average of 8 vegetable items each week and Half Share bags will include an average of 5 items per week (item numbers vary each week depending on value of produce in bag). There is also the ability to separately purchase a meat share at a cost of $28.50/week (variety of pork and chicken OR chicken only) and an egg share worth $6.50/week, which do not require a vegetable CSA purchase in order to participate. Non-refundable deposits are required on each share purchased (and are built into the share cost). We will also have a list of available add-on products weekly that can be brought in for you if requested. We will also let you know each week what to expect in your bag. And finally, recipes will be provided via our online CSA newsletter so that you are never stuck wondering what to do with items such as kholrabi, beets, or baby curly kale.
Overall Benefits to Joining our CSA:
Payments for this CSA are broken down into two instalments. Half of your total is due by April 1, 2023 and the remainder is due by June 1, 2023. A $50 non-refundable deposit for each share purchased is included in your payments. If you would like to get in on a share and are worried about being able to pay your entire half right now but don't want to miss a share (eggs for example which tend to get gobbled up quickly) you can make your deposit payment first as long as the remainder of your first half owed is paid up by April 1 ,2023. Alternatively you can pay in Full immediately through our online store. If you wish to make payments please contact us through our CONTACT button and we will be happy to invoice you in sections :)
Our first Delivery will be on June 2nd and end on September 29 .
